Louie's Story.

Louie was spotted by a volunteer at the Cleveland Kennel in July, 2009. He was cowering in his cage, with his back facing out. No volunteers or staff could get near him, he was beyond terrified. A Friends of the Cleveland Kennel volunteer did manage to remove him from his cage, and transport him to the nearest vet hospital to be seen. This little man, only about 15 lbs, was infested with fleas, covered in bed sores, and had lost most of the hair on his body, except for the matted fur on his head filled with flea dirt.
In addition to his poor physical condition, his overall temperament was a constant state of terror. The very sight of another person would set him into a frozen state of complete fear. This dog was only a year old, and had experienced what no living thing should ever have to go through. He had obviously been severely abused and neglected. His only chance was to allow time, patience, and love to bring him out of his nightmare, that had nearly ended his life.
After being in foster care, given a high nutrition diet, and seen by local behaviorist Ed Dickson from North Coast Dogs, Louie was slowly starting to learn how to be a "real dog". Louie showed us that despite the way humans treated him in the past, he is incredibly sweet and loving. Once he found his favorite person, there was never a shortage of kisses! Louie learned to play with other dogs, walks wonderfully on a leash outside, and can leap through the air like a true athlete!
We are pleased to say that Louie was officially adopted in October 2009. He is making progress every single day, and is living a life of love and happiness.
